Lieutenant Commander Jeff Queen, USNR (ret.) Senior Naval Science Instructor
Lieutenant Commander Queen is a native New Yorker who graduated from Locust Valley High School on the north shore of Long Island. In 1978 he graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and History. He earned his commission as a Naval Flight Officer Candidate from Aviation Officer Candidate School in February 1981. Following the completion of flight training Lieutenant Commander Queen joined Patrol Squadron 48, working in the Operations and Maintenance departments. Following shore duty in Boston as a recruiter for the Nuclear Power Program he changed designators to the Training and Administration of Reserves. His first TAR assignment was Reserve Liaison Officer, Commander Patrol Wing Ten. Lieutenant Commander Queen then completed back-to-back department head tours with Patrol Squadrons 91 and 92, serving as Administration and then Training officer in both squadrons. In 1995 he volunteered to transfer to the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) where he served as ASW Officer and Assistant Strike Operations Officer. While onboard he qualified as a Tactical Action Officer. He taught his first year of Naval Science at Northeast Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. Desiring a return to the San Francisco Bay Area, he transferred in 1998 to Milpitas High School where he is completing his tenth year as the Senior Naval Science Instructor. Lieutenant Commander Queen taught sailing at the NJROTC AREA Eleven Leadership Academy four summers and has been a repeat guest instructor at the NJROTC New Instructor Orientation Training course. Lieutenant Commander Queen is authorized to wear the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy achievement Medal (four awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Battle Efficiency Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with bronze star, Navy Arctic Service Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Navy Recruiting Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Expert Rifle Medal and the Expert Pistol Shot Medal. He is married to the former Christina Nguyen of Point Loma, CA and has 3 stepchildren, Jonathan, Stephanie and Alex; all of whom were active in the Milpitas High School NJROTC program.
